Genoa to Close After 38 Years

by shooter
After an election that brought promise and hope, the bad news keeps coming today.  In an interview with The Oregonian, Kerry DeBuse, owner of Genoa, said he decided the restaurant could not survive the economic downturn and will close.

DeBuse said business had been slow since early summer, "but it all changed 180 degrees within a week of the recent (Wall Street) crash.  When the problems went global, the bottom fell out."

Genoa's last night will be Saturday, Nov. 22nd.

I found this Reuters article on Portland Food and Drink.  According to the National Restaurant Association, restaurants are in their toughest time since 1991.  Depending on consumer spending in the fourth quarter it could be the toughest environment since the early 1980s.

When you do go out for a meal, visit your favorite local restaurant.  Local businesses are an important part of a vibrant neighborhood.  Showing a little support goes a long way in this economy.

I am glad this neighborhood unfriendly business is going away. I hope a more neighborhood orientated business takes its place.
