Save the Date » Denim Swap at Nolita

by pearlgirl
bbbs_poster1 Portland fashionistas have an opportunity to do good, and looking good doing it. Nolita , Portland's destination for premium denim and designer fashions, is holding its Denim Swap to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Columbia Northwest (BBBS) . Here's how it works: customers bring in their gently used denim (kids and adult sizes welcome) to Nolita November 3rd-17th and, in return, get $25 off the purchase of new jeans. People can donate as much denim as they like, but deal is good for up to three pairs of full-priced jeans. Nolita will then give those old jeans new life by donating the denim to Big Brothers Big Sisters. But Nolita is doing more than just collecting the jeans and passing them on to BBBS. They're also throwing a Big Denim Party for the kids at the store, filling their racks with the donated denim and letting the kids "shop" for their jeans in a high-end boutique atmosphere to make them feel special. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors at-risk youth he

Denim Swap at Nolita

by pearlgirl
cityofothers Attention denim addicts. Gather up your 'previously loved' jeans and head to Nolita November 3–17 for its Denim Swap. Your jeans will be donated to teenagers in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program and you will receive $25 off a new pair. Good swap, right?

As you might suspect, there are a few rules:
-Donated denim must be in good wearable condition.
-Cannot be combined with any other promotion/coupon/offer
-No price adjustments to previous purchases.

Portland Fashion Week Updates

by pearlgirl
pfw Two updates from Portland Fashion Week... Nike Considered to launch "Sports Inspired" collection at PFW For the second year running, Nike Considered , the eco-conscious Nike label that is the pathfinder for the entire Nike organization, will debut
a never-before-seen collection here in their own "backyard," at Portland Fashion Week. Nike Considered Design:
• Nike has always been about performance innovation for the benefit of the athlete, however, since we began measuring our environmental footprint back in 1998 we've gained insight into how we can innovate for the benefit of both the athlete and the environment.
• Nike's Considered philosophy is about combining product performance with environmental sustainability and giving consideration to how decisions made at the beginning of the product design process impacts sustainability at the other end.
• Considered product has provided us with so much learning that is has evol

There's No Place Like Home—Matisse Moves Back to Broadway

by pearlgirl
753716193_ae34ca7994 There's no place like home. Just ask retailer Tracy Turbin. After 15 years on NE Broadway, she moved her boutique, Matisse , to the Pearl District in July 2007. We just learned that Turbin plans to move Matisse back to Broadway and hopes to re(re?)-open in October. No word on what precipitated the move, but we're sure that Broadway will be happy to have Matisse back home again—Pearl retailers are definitely sad to see it go. We're just glad that Matisse is staying open!!!  Matisse 2424 N.E. Broadway 503.287.5414

Shop Talk – The Paper Station

by alex
PaperStation 1 I'm not a big fan of air travel (too many people in too small a space with too many bumps and mechanical noises!) but I am a big fan of the Portland airport. It's a nice, manageable size, clean and organized, and best of all, they have some great shops where you can easily kill some time if you're early for a flight or waiting for a loved one to arrive.

I especially love The Paper Station – as the name implies they have a great selection of greeting cards and other paper products (I found the cutest graduation card there not too long ago). Read more »

Bishops rediscovers its soul

by shooter
Bishops-1 After being closed for just a little over a month, Bishops has reopened its Pearl location as a barbershop. You may recall that Bishops announced it was closing the salon by sending a mannequin head and ransom note to The Mercury . There is no better way to admit a mistake than to use it to announce a change.

The shop reopened on July 1st with little fanfare but the familiar look of Bishops. Stop by and get a cut and a beer.
