15th Annual Pearl Party on the horizon

Can you believe it has been 15 years??? Join the fun and plan to attend the Pearl Party on Friday, September 8th.
The party is located on 13th between Hoyt and Irving (by Paragon ). Sponsors include Home Owner Associations, the PDNA and area businesses. Food, wine and beer will be provided by local establishments. A band will play from the loading dock on 13th Avenue. The party gets bigger and bigger as the district grows. It is a great way to meet neighbors. Don't miss it!
If you'd like to get involved and help plan the party, the committee will meet at Paragon on Monday, June 5th at 5:30pm.

I am not blogging about the bird flu today, but a different virus,
one that seems to be hitting the media with full force these days-
HPV, the Human Papilloma Virus.

Chattanooga Choo Choo

ok, so there's been talk of keeping it down and quiet when walking home from a night of bar-hopping in the Pearl. Good call. And Sam does indeed rock. I am definitely all about proper manners, being a good citizen, and an upstanding Pearl resident. But I can tell you this: my inebriated neighbors stumbling home on a hot summer night have nothing on the good people of Amtrak.
Case and point: the freakish horn of the train at 3:30 am!
That thing goes on for a good 45 minutes--or so it feels like it, at that hour. I know they just gotta make sure we know the train's arrived (a good 2 to 3 hours late), and I know we're not in a quiet zone (can we get a petition going?) but is a giant honk really necessary? If so, can we at least get the conductor to play a tune? Seasonal themes, old favorites, or maybe even take requests? (Christmas tunes, '80s, disco, whatever)

Here's an interesting article about public restrooms. Several of the activists that make up the organization PHLUSH are from Old Town Chinatown and they feel strongly that there should be more public restrooms in Portland... including the Pearl.

Sam rocks!

Dear Neighbors,
I would like to apologize for the noise that occurred last night (May 18th) on my patio. I arrived at my business at approximately 10:40pm and found a group of eight people dining outside. Although the group was relatively small, they were engaged in loud conversation, laughing etc.
After I arrived, I asked the group to lower the noise level and settle their bills. This process took about 10-15 minutes and the group departed. I reiterated to my staff about not seating anyone after 10pm on the patio. I will allow customers to complete their dinning on the patio if they were seated prior to 10pm but will “breakdown” the tables and not seat any customers after 10pm. The only exception that may occur, is First Thursday, when I don’t have enough room to accommodate all of the customers inside the doors.
Once again, I apologize for the noise and I will continue to honor my commitment
