Puppy love: call yourself an animal lover? We'll drink to that (with you, of course). Vault Martini and Neighborhood Notes have joined forces in hosting Portland's exclusive monthly happy hour for animal lovers. Every last Monday of the month, Vault will donate 15% of event proceeds to our favorite Portland animal non-profit organizations. Happy hour cocktails and food will be offered 5-8:30 p.m. Mark your calendar for Monday, November 24th, when we'll raise our glasses (and forks) to the Pixie Project . Pixie Project facilitates adoption and healthy lifestyles for thousands of dogs and cats each year. Puppy party favors will be given to the first 20 guests. On Wednesday, November 26, 2008, city staff will be going to Council with the final proposed amendments regarding the manner in which wireless companies may place antennae on utility poles, and replace utility poles with taller ones for wireless purposes. The proposed amendments are designed to balance the need to retain neighborhood character and livability with the expanding need to provide wireless services in neighborhoods. They were developed over the course of two years. Staff conducted three public forums in March, 2008, followed by an online survey in April-May, 2008 (that was responded to by over 900 people, and over 350 individual comments were also received), followed by a citywide public meeting in October, 2008. In short, staff is proposing to allow antennae on utility poles in residential areas on residential streets only as a last resort - when no other site or combination of sites for antennae is feasible. This educational, fundraising, performance and retail space will be open November 28 thru December 24, in Portland's Pearl District. Holiday Bizarre will feature ongoing art activities with CHAP's young artists, families, teaching artists, board, and community volunteers mixing with the children and families of Portland. CHAP's Holiday Bizarre invites the public to come MAKE gifts, holiday ornaments, tree toppers and gift wrap, or stencil on the thousands of garments donated by Columbia Sportswear.
