Puppy Love » Happy Hour for Animal Lovers (Save the Date!)
by pearlgirl
Puppy love: call yourself an animal lover? We'll drink to that (with you, of course). Vault Martini and Neighborhood Notes have joined forces in hosting Portland's exclusive monthly happy hour for animal lovers. Every last Monday of the month, Vault will donate 15% of event proceeds to our favorite Portland animal non-profit organizations. Happy hour cocktails and food will be offered 5-8:30 p.m. Mark your calendar for Monday, November 24th, when we'll raise our glasses (and forks) to the Pixie Project . Pixie Project facilitates adoption and healthy lifestyles for thousands of dogs and cats each year. Puppy party favors will be given to the first 20 guests. Big thanks to everybody who joined us in October for "Cocktails for Kitties," benefiting the Feral Cat Coalition . Your happy hour donation has contributed to "kitty contraception" citywide. Cheers! Hit the Road with 50 Plates
by pearlgirl
The great American road trip is really a culinary adventure—on wheels. Every region has its own distinct taste and food culture. Fried green tomatoes. Shrimp po boys. Chowder. Pulled pork. Now that's Americana! No matter where you hail from, or which roads you've traveled, you'll enjoy a trip down sensory lane at 50 Plates . "50 Plates is a restaurant showcasing the cuisine of the American tradition. Of memories—real or imagined—of grandmother's pies, state fair fries, of date shakes and cheese steaks; a Kentucky bourbon fueled culinary road-trip beyond Route 66, from Smithfield Hams to Ipswich Clams. 50 Plates is the best of red states, blue plates, and everything in between." Eateries plot new courses
by shooter
The Portland Tribune does an excellent job of describing the realities of the restaurant business these days. Dealing with rising food and labor costs, and a clientele that is spending less creates a difficult balance for our local eateries. Changing ingredients (who would have known that the price of rice oil has almost doubled recently), removing less popular items from the menu, and offering lower priced happy hour fare are some of the ways restaurateurs lower costs while retaining customers. We're all feeling it these days. So when you go out think local and remember that restaurants are working hard to provide a quality product that will keep you coming back. From the Portland Tribune : At ¿Por Que No? taqueria on North Mississippi, Bryan Steelman will switch from rice oil to corn oil in a few weeks, hoping his homemade chips will turn out as light and crispy as they’ve always been. The reason? Rice oil, known to be a healthier and tastier alternative for coo
