Collaborative Exhibition:
In 2007 the sixth annual Collaborative Artists show will be displayed at The Museum of Contemporary Craft in association with Art In The Pearl. The goal of these collaborations is to get artists to explore new things, perhaps work in a different media or look at their work from another artist's point of view. Curated by Greg Wilbur, artists are asked to stimulate their creative energy by making work together. Fifty percent of sales from this project go to Sisters of the Road Café, a Northwest Portland Café that serves meals to people regardless of their ability to pay and also is a safe and pleasant place for people to spend time. Click here for a complete list of artists involved in this Collaborative Artists Show.
Scott Wayne Indiana--the artist responsible for all of the Pearl ponies--is collaborating with TJ Norris. Here's an excerpt on their collaboration from the Mercury:
A new collaborative work by TJ Norris and Scott Wayne Indiana goes to even greater lengths to subvert the confines of traditional exhibition. Although their Postmortemism [ M_US__EUM ], a neon and video work, will be shown at the Museum of Contemporary Craft, it will also be broadcast online at YouTube. Instead of limiting an encounter with an artwork to a specific time and place, Norris and Indiana have made the viewing conditions of their piece virtually limitless. It's a fascinating move that relinquishes control of a precise presentation, thereby compromising intention, while undermining the supposed exaltation of the art object within the gallery or museum context. And, of course, it also means that you don't have to be in Portland to take part in the city's busiest month for visual arts.
