New Shoes, a Facial, and a Hysterectomy.... Welcome to the Pearl, 2006
by pearlgirl
Most of you have shopped the Pearl, eaten in the Pearl, maybe visited a salon in the Pearl...
But, did you know that you can have the majority of your healthcare needs satisfied in the Pearl ?
As we continue to grow, new healthcare providers are opening their doors, and the Pearl just continues to get bigger and better !
While my blogs are geared toward those of XX persuasion, there are great resources for both men and women in our very own hood.
SO Why mention hysterectomy in a blog ?
Is this too graphic, not appropriate material for a neighborhood website ?
Well, those of you who find yourself debilitated once a month (or more) know what I'm talking about-
Afterall, without your health, is anything else really important ?
Look at the statistics--->
One in four women in the US will have a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) by age 60.
That's over 1/2 million surgeries a year for a shopping list of medical issues that lead one to a Gynecologist providing this service.
And, yes, we actually perform this service in our onsite SurgiCenter- in the Pearl, as an outpatient.
And, ok, sure, I just put in a plug for my medical practice ... But the only way to get the word out about options in medicine is via informing the public about their CHOICES. And you have many...
The point here, (and there is a point), is that new technology exists in all facets of our lives, from kiosks at the airport to assist with "easy check-in"- to parking meters which take credit cards, to TIVO, from Wolfgang Puck in a can to Hybrid cars, to Pixar animations. From... ok- you get it.
And these technologies also exist in medicine.
Quite frankly, it's difficult to keep up with all of this stuff !
IF you need surgery, make certain that you are aware of all options.
Perhaps there is a noninvasive remedy for your ailment.
Portland is a hub for some of the best Naturopathic medicine around-
Perhaps prescribed medicine can fix your ailment- maybe dietary changes will help.
We know that exercise won't hurt.
If you are left facing the reality that you require surgery, don't be afraid to ask questions... can your procedure be performed via a "minimally invasive technique?" Can it wait ? Are there other options ?
The answer is nearly always, YES...
FYI- Minimally Invasive means little tiny incisions, less pain, minimal recovery.
Back to Hysterectomy-
Until recently, this operation was performed only in hospitals, with overnight stays, significant pain, and weeks of recovery.
We now can perform this surgery in about one hour, using tiny skin incisions and laparoscopy (video surgery), in our SurgiCenter.
Full Recovery within 1-2 days with no restrictions and minimal to no pain. This is a tremendous advance in women's healthcare, and we are pround to share the information with the public.
If you are interested in this topic and want to learn more, visit our website at PearlWomensCenter.com
We have a streaming video under "patient educational resources" about hysterectomy options.
Please feel free to comment on Blogger if there are any health related topics you want to hear about.
Until next time...
Stay healthy and happy.
