Another List... and we're tops!

by pearlgirl
I was surprised... and not too surprised at an article I read this morning about Portland being the "whitest" city in America and its disappearing minority neighborhoods.

Like the number of strip clubs in Portland... the level of whiteness isn't exactly hidden; but it's always dumbfounding to hear that we top this kind of list.

I live in The Pearl around white people, black people, asians and hispanics. I think race categorization about people about people is just plain stupid. Most of the white, black, asian and hispanic people are wonderful. Some of the white, black, asian and hispanic people create community problems by their behaviour. It's not about race. It's about how we all conduct ourselves in a community.

I'm not surprised. I find the Pearl District to be even more so. In fact, the one minority on the board for the homeowners association at the Avenue Lofts recently resigned after a secret petition was circulated to kick him off. Racism or coincidence?
