Overheard on the Streetcar

by pearlgirl
Sometimes, it's refreshing to eavesdrop on conversations when riding the streetcar. I always like listening to tourists talk about our city, neighborhood and mass transit. Last night, I picked up the streetcar at Riverplace and sat next to a couple of gentleman from Detroit.

When they boarded the streetcar, one exclaimed "wow, this is really nice" and went on to say "I wish we had transportation like this in Detroit". They talked about what a great thing it must be to have a downtown core tied together by such a nice means of transportation. As we traveled through downtown, they commented on the construction and said "This is a growing city, all of this construction is absolutely amazing". They guffawed about the downtown core of Detroit and how what we have here would never work there.

Sometimes I forget how lucky we are to have all of the construction and the streetcar. It's always refreshing to see our city through new eyes.
