Indentity Theft Alert: PLEASE READ

by pearlgirl
Good Morning All,

Last night I was called by Detective Lisa Clayton, Portland Police SE Precinct who informed me that sometime in November a neighborhood building’s residents were the victims of mail theft and may be identity theft victims as well. She gave me a list of names from evidence they have collected and we will be following up with the owners on that list today. We are also providing her a resident list so she can check it against names on the evidence she has. She will contact any owners that she has information on. The Police confiscated everything from checks to id cards. Additionally, there may be other owners and neighborhood buildings that are affected so she has asked us to post a notice in the buildings we manage asking residents to check with the credit bureaus and their financial institutions to see if there is any unusual activity on their accounts. If there is she would like those owners to call her at 503-823-5043. She did request that unless the resident was victimized she not get calls as the suspect is implicated with several similar thefts and car prowls and she does not have the time to answer general questions.

She informed me that the suspect is the same as one that was caught on video in another neighborhood building and they have issued a warrant for his arrest. He had rented a car and loaned it to his friend who was pulled over and arrested and this is how they found the information on for the victims. Detective Clayton informed me that the suspect has a copy of the Postal Services arrow key. The arrow key allows the postal carrier to enter the building and open the banks of mailboxes. We have contacted the Post Office and are requesting that the locks be changed today for all the buildings we manage and suggesting they do the entire neighborhood. The one key services many of the neighborhood buildings. In the long term we will be asking for a different system for the Postal Carriers as this is the second time in the last two years the arrow key has been compromised.

If you have mail to send I would recommend you put it in the outgoing mail as close to the time of pick up as possible and no sooner than the morning of pick up. Additionally, retrieve your mail daily and if you are going on vacation have the post office hold your mail. Also, I would recommend placing a fraud block on all of your financial accounts.

As always let me know if you have any questions or any information.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news when we should be enjoying Holiday Cheer.

Bryce
