On Wednesday, November 26, 2008, city staff will be going to Council with the final proposed amendments regarding the manner in which wireless companies may place antennae on utility poles, and replace utility poles with taller ones for wireless purposes. The proposed amendments are designed to balance the need to retain neighborhood character and livability with the expanding need to provide wireless services in neighborhoods. They were developed over the course of two years. Staff conducted three public forums in March, 2008, followed by an online survey in April-May, 2008 (that was responded to by over 900 people, and over 350 individual comments were also received), followed by a citywide public meeting in October, 2008. In short, staff is proposing to allow antennae on utility poles in residential areas on residential streets only as a last resort - when no other site or combination of sites for antennae is feasible. Even then, staff proposes to reduce the allowed pole rep

This November, Sequential Art Gallery welcomes local painter & illustrator Katy Ellis O'Brien, as she presents "Letters From Underwood: A Story in Pictures." "Letters from Underwood: A Story in Pictures" is a series of acrylic paintings on wood panel illustrating the emotional journey of three animal characters who discover a pair of human foundlings. Inspired by cartoons and picture books, local artist Katy Ellis O'Brien weaves together adult themes and childlike imagery to tell a tale both playful and sinister. Arranged in sequence, the paintings offer glimpses into a complex narrative, inciting the viewer's imagination. O'Brien has lived her entire life in the Pacific Northwest, having grown up in Forest Grove, Oregon, and earned her degree in visual art from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She now resides in Portland, where her artwork has shown at City Hall and the Pony Club Gallery. More of O'Brien's work can be found in her self-publi

2008 marks the 54rd year for the Christmas Ship Parade on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers in Portland, Oregon. Please click on the Willamette or the Columbia Schedule links for complete schedules with route details including viewing locations and times for restaurants, hotels and outdoor viewing. The Christmas Ship Fleet averages about 55 to 60 boats between the two Columbia and Willamette River fleets. Both fleets will be out every night for two weeks beginning December 10, 2008 and running through December 21, 2008. The fleet will do a special performance in Camas, WA on Dec. 6th. As we are an all volunteer organization, not all the boats make it out every night. Without the donations from the restaurants and the hotels along the waterfront, this parade would not be possible. Please book your Christmas parties at our sponsoring restaurants and hotels. They are listed by viewing dates on the fleet schedule links with phone numbers and links to their websites. Thei
