The Mid-Century Modern League of Portland will hold their October meeting at the Alibi this Sunday at 6:00 pm. After your eyes have adjusted to the dark, grab your umbrella drink, and head around to the upper dining area. Meeting topics include a recap of the United States of Charles Phoenix show, updates on the Crown Motel sign, and other exciting business! The Mid-Century Modern League of Portland is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to celebrating and preserving the many postwar buildings, homes, signage and furnishings in the Portland area. The Mid-Century Modern League hopes to call attention to this often overlooked "Atomic Age" of architecture. Members and visitors enjoy swapping home-improvement tips, local landmark history and trivia, following real estate listings, and sharing photos on the discussion board. Shop Talk – The Paper Station

I'm not a big fan of air travel (too many people in too small a space with too many bumps and mechanical noises!) but I am a big fan of the Portland airport. It's a nice, manageable size, clean and organized, and best of all, they have some great shops where you can easily kill some time if you're early for a flight or waiting for a loved one to arrive.I especially love The Paper Station – as the name implies they have a great selection of greeting cards and other paper products (I found the cutest graduation card there not too long ago).
