Some questions we've answered so far...
What do you mean by commercial interest? My business is hosting a free event for a nonprofit—do I have to pay a fee to promote it on Neighborhood Notes?
As a small business, we have to pay a whole host of people (writers, editors, web developers to name a few) to bring Neighborhood Notes to our readership. There are many, very worthy events happening around Portland all of the time, and our business would not be sustainable if we posted them all at no charge. When a for-profit business hosts a charity event, it will hopefully bring not only funding to the cause, but also generate good public relations, and consequently more business, to the host of the event. In an effort to be fair to everyone, we have felt it necessary to draw a line between events hosted by nonprofits without any commercial interest, and those events hosted for them by for-profit businesses, because there is an opportunity for profit gain. We hope you understand that we, like you, are a small business, and had to draw a line somewhere so that we can remain viable.
My press release is longer than 300 words. Can I still submit it?
An idea: submit the first 250 or so words, and then link back to the information on your site. Then you'll be able to track readers.
I don't have time to submit my press releases and events. Can I email them to Neighborhood Notes instead?
We hope that our promotion of your news and events via our web site, Twitter, Facebook, RSS and in our e-newsletter will make your time investment worthwhile.
