Three Monkeys -- Expanded and Even Cooler

by northwest nola
IMG_6842 I went by one of my favorite stores today -- Northwest Portland's Three Monkeys. Recently, they expanded their store, combining what was once Three Monkeys (vintage housewares) and Three More Monkeys (clothes) into one giant Three Monkeys store. And I know I'm partial because I already loved this store to begin with, but I love it even more in its newly expanded space. The new space is larger, warm, welcoming and calls to your inner shopper. Maybe it's because there are all sorts of bright and shiny objects to choose from; maybe it's because I like that vintage-y style of decor, but something about the new store is worth at least a look -- especially as the holiday season comes rushing upon us. As far as fashion goes, they just got in a giant selection of holiday dresses, so if you're in the market for one, take a gander at their selection. Since I am a "touch" shopper (I like to touch appealing fabrics and such) I was in a little paradise of sorts trying to find a dress f

Pie Footwear hosts Alberta Street Fair Shoe Donation & Recycling Drive

by pearlgirl
pie From our friends at Pie Footwear... There are an estimated 1.5 billion pairs of shoes in American homes that are destined for our landfills instead of being put to use the way they were intended: on people's feet. Pie Footwear in partnership with Albina Community Bank , Teva Footwear , The Waterkeeper Alliance , Soles4Souls and The Alberta Street Fair will host a Shoe Donation & Recycling Drive during the 11th annual Alberta Street Fair on Saturday, September 13th. Shoes collected will be donated to Soles4Souls and distributed on a national and international level to people in need. Soles4Souls participated in donating over 1 million pairs of shoes to help aid the relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and the Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. For each shoe collected, Teva will donate $1 to The Waterkeeper Alliance. The Waterkeeper Alliance is a grassroots advocacy organization with 177 local Waterkeeper programs and growing. They are dedicated to preserving and protecting

The Chosen One

by pearlgirl
If you were empowered to design your own sneakers—what would they look like? Imagine your design, and others, being discussed and rated by a worldwide audience. Envision your creation generating the most buzz and being soooooooo popular that it is chosen for production: your sole is immortalized, your story is on the hangtag, and your bank account receives a share of the profit. Last Thursday night, 200 or so creatives descended on Souk in Old Town Chinatown to cast their vote and participate in fashion's first democracy—the launch of RYZ footwear . In case you missed the memo, here and here , RYZ is the new shoe company launched by former Adidas front man, Rob Langstaff. Rather than source designers—yawn, that's so 2007—Langstaff crowdsourced designs from the sneaker-obsessesed public. Sneakers by and for the people, ya'll. Over 2,000 designs were submitted to RYZ, whittled to 60 contenders, and then narrowed to five finalists with the help of an

The Other Shoe Has Dropped

by pearlgirl
h2 We've heard rumblings about two pending business closures, but were asked to keep it hush hush . Today, via Portland Picks , Bella Moda Designs (11th & Lovejoy) announced that it will not renew its lease. A liquidation sale is planned July 1–31. We'd like to wish Catherine the best of luck on future endeavors. Meanwhile, we're waiting for the other shoe to drop—confirmation that another shoe boutique will close its doors. Stay tuned.
