Indoor Active Play is Closed Until 1/5/09

Indoor Active Play at Pearl Court Activity Center and Cami Curtis Performing Art Center is closed for the year. Indoor Active Play at Pearl Court Activity Center will return at 3:30 on Monday, January 5th. The Tuesday Indoor Active Play never really caught on, so it will not resume in January. We look forward to playing with you in the new year.

Portland Loo Floods the News

I never thought a public toilet could generate so much news. No less than 8 reports and posts were found in just a few minutes. It seems that Portlanders just can't get enough of the new Loo at NW 5th and NW Glisan. (photo: Loo sign in Bangkok shopping mall) Portland will be getting more Loos soon. The Oregonian quotes Commissioner Leonard as saying the next Loo is scheduled to be installed this spring in Jamison Square. The Pearl District Neighborhood Association was not aware of these plans, but is not surprised since the Parks Department has been considering putting porta potties there during the summer. Let's hope the City gets some input from the neighborhood before installing it. Every year for the last three years, Portland has reached the very top of the most sustainable cities list produced by SustainLane . There should really be no surprise that Portland keeps beating its rivals. Take for instance Adam Boesel, and his new fitness project, The Green Microgym .
The Green Microgym houses four stationary bikes that produce between 200 and 600 watts of electricity per hour, several other stationary bikes that are connected to generators that Boesel built, treadmills that run off 30% less power, a yoga studio with cork flooring, efficient ceiling fans and solar panel awnings.

Planned Parenthood Breaks Ground on New Regional Center

After numerous delays and much controversy, Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) broke ground on its newest clinic and regional service center. The new building will include 7000 square feet of clinics, regional offices, as well as 5000 square feet of retail space. The 40,000 square foot building will unite the entire administrative staff, currently divided between two buildings, under one roof. PPCW expects construction of the LEED-Gold building to be completed in late 2009.PPCW provides reproductive healthcare services to more than 60,000 women, men, and teens at its 11 regional health centers annually. Its current NE Portland health center operates at capacity 7 days a week. The new Regional Service Center will give PPCW the capacity to serve over 110,000 patients in the region.
