New Boutique, Amai Unmei, A Must Visit

by northwest nola
5307fuschia A friend of mine recently opened up a great boutique on NW 23rd, Amai Unmei . I know I'm partial, but what a cool store! When I found out she was opening up shop right down the street from me, I was excited. But when I walked in to her brand spanking new lair o'fashion, I was even more excited, as I totally got it. This lady is in the fashion business for a reason; because she gets fashion. Not only do the the fashions rock, but the store itself is gorgeous. It is clean and bright. You feel like you can get your shopping done while you're there. I also think it's neat that Allison, the owner/designer, spends a fair amount of time manning the mothership. How cool to walk into a store and actually speak with the designer who made the dress you're about to buy. I spent a good twenty minutes salivating over the rich silky dresses and trendy winter coats, while silently deciding what I'm not going to buy at other stores this month in order to buy one of Allison's dresses. Full disclosu

Three Monkeys -- Expanded and Even Cooler

by northwest nola
IMG_6842 I went by one of my favorite stores today -- Northwest Portland's Three Monkeys. Recently, they expanded their store, combining what was once Three Monkeys (vintage housewares) and Three More Monkeys (clothes) into one giant Three Monkeys store. And I know I'm partial because I already loved this store to begin with, but I love it even more in its newly expanded space. The new space is larger, warm, welcoming and calls to your inner shopper. Maybe it's because there are all sorts of bright and shiny objects to choose from; maybe it's because I like that vintage-y style of decor, but something about the new store is worth at least a look -- especially as the holiday season comes rushing upon us. As far as fashion goes, they just got in a giant selection of holiday dresses, so if you're in the market for one, take a gander at their selection. Since I am a "touch" shopper (I like to touch appealing fabrics and such) I was in a little paradise of sorts trying to find a dress f

Radish Underground Opens in West End

by pearlgirl
radish-u-primary Radish Underground is an independent fashion boutique and gallery space in Portland's West End Fashion District. They're all about treating fashion a little bit more like art, minus the sparse cold gallery feel. Their mission is to bring together independent designers, artists and artisans to expand Portland's vibrant arts community, and share this passion with their guests. Owners Celestial Sipes and Gina Johnson plan to feature a different apparel designer and visual artist or accessory designer every month. In addition to showcasing their line, each designer creates one or two exclusive garments that will only be available at Radish Underground. Join them on the First Thursday of each month to be a part of these artist/designer openings.

Radish Underground is celebrating its Grand Opening this First Thursday, November 6th from 5pm-9pm. This event will fea

Save the Date » Denim Swap at Nolita

by pearlgirl
bbbs_poster1 Portland fashionistas have an opportunity to do good, and looking good doing it. Nolita , Portland's destination for premium denim and designer fashions, is holding its Denim Swap to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Columbia Northwest (BBBS) . Here's how it works: customers bring in their gently used denim (kids and adult sizes welcome) to Nolita November 3rd-17th and, in return, get $25 off the purchase of new jeans. People can donate as much denim as they like, but deal is good for up to three pairs of full-priced jeans. Nolita will then give those old jeans new life by donating the denim to Big Brothers Big Sisters. But Nolita is doing more than just collecting the jeans and passing them on to BBBS. They're also throwing a Big Denim Party for the kids at the store, filling their racks with the donated denim and letting the kids "shop" for their jeans in a high-end boutique atmosphere to make them feel special. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors at-risk youth he

Free People Clothing Boutique Opening First Portland Location

by pearlgirl
081003-Outfit1_a Just read this juicy tidbit: Free People Clothing Boutique will open its first location in Portland. Free People is the wholesale line of Urban Outfitters . The brand evolved from juniors into a more mature and contemporary market—and by mature, they mean girls in their mid-20's. In 2002, the brand opened its first boutique, and now has stores nationwide. Read the Free People story and check out their collections of apparel , accessories , shoes and intimates on the website. Oh. You want to know where the boutique will be located? You'll have to visit Willamette Week to find out. Kudos on this, and other, fine retail scoopage!

DB Clay Folds It Up

by pearlgirl
3-dammasch-logo I've always enjoyed the unique wallets made by NE Portland's DB Clay . (I'm not sure which NE Portland neighborhood they're located in) This local company successfully transformed the utilitarian wallet into a design object. Their seasonal releases of new designs are something I always look forward to—and now, it's something I'll miss. Yesterday, I learned that DB Clay is closing its doors due to economic conditions. It's really sad to lose such a great local business.  You can still order online—orders must be placed by October 15—or visit one of DB Clay's exclusive retailers to shop the limited inventory.

pfw Two updates from Portland Fashion Week... Nike Considered to launch "Sports Inspired" collection at PFW For the second year running, Nike Considered , the eco-conscious Nike label that is the pathfinder for the entire Nike organization, will debut
a never-before-seen collection here in their own "backyard," at Portland Fashion Week. Nike Considered Design:
• Nike has always been about performance innovation for the benefit of the athlete, however, since we began measuring our environmental footprint back in 1998 we've gained insight into how we can innovate for the benefit of both the athlete and the environment.
• Nike's Considered philosophy is about combining product performance with environmental sustainability and giving consideration to how decisions made at the beginning of the product design process impacts sustainability at the other end.
• Considered product has provided us with so much learning that is has evol
