The menu at Mazen Khoury’s downtown Lebanese restaurant is long and lovingly broken down to credit dishes based on the recipes of his father, sisters and, chiefly, his mother. But if Habibi’s surplus of choices has you puzzled over what to order, just scan the happy hour menu and mix and match several of its small plates, like a generous dish of lemon-bright tabouli made with fresh, crunchy parsley, his sister’s kafta and chicken skewers, or an artfully presented dish of velvety smooth hummus. More than anything though, Khoury’s baba ghannouj is required eating—even for those who shy away from all things eggplant—and it comes with soft, fresh-from-the-oven housemade pitas (as do many of the plates). Just think, if you bring along a couple of friends, you can each order small, yet still turn your whole table into a giant mezza platter. And the best part? Habibi’s happy hour runs all day, every day, starting at 11 a.m.
