If you frequent any of Portland's many farmers' markets, you might know John and Gabrielle Esbeck—they run crêpe stands at six of them. Now, their crêpes have a permanent home in the 22-seat space once occupied by Kir Wine Bar. In addition to offering charcuterie plates, pork liver mousse, and tapenades, the Esbecks serve almost a dozen sweet and savory crêpes with locally sourced produce (from Gathering Together Farms) and meats (from Tails & Trotters), including an elegantly simple lemon curd crêpe and others made with pork confit or smoked salmon. But, one thing you’ll find here that you won’t at their stands is wine—lots of it, mostly of European origin. (The Esbecks spent seven years abroad in Paris and Bordeaux.) And, all of it’s from small vineyards that bottle sustainable, biodynamic and organic wines.
