Proposed development at NW 23rd Ave. and NW Raleigh St. will demolish this building.

The northern end of NW 23rd Avenue might soon be getting a whole lot taller. Later this month, a public hearing will be held allowing neighbors the chance to weigh on on the potential redevelopment of the lot currently occupied by the Rock Soft Futon and the New Old Lompoc brewery and tavern. Detailed in the proposal, submitted by CE John Properties of Vancouver, Washington, are plans to construct a 4-story, 27-unit residential building on NW 23rd Avenue, at Raleigh, with nearly 4,700 square-feet of ground-floor retail space.

The development isn't the first proposed by CE John along this corridor; the firm is also behind the redevelopments of the Besaw's building at NW Savier and the old Esquire Theatre Building, once home to the recently-shuttered Rose's Restaurant and Bakery at Kearney. CE John also has plans to build a 6-story, 94-unit mixed-use development at the corner of NW 23rd at Lovejoy. The public hearing is scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, November 17, at the offices of the Bureau of Development Services, at 1900 SW 4th Avenue.
