After years of rumors about hotels in the Pearl, real plans to develop one are underway. Representatives of SERA Architects have scheduled a pre-application conference with the Bureau of Development Services proposing “a new, six-story, 225-room hotel” on NW 9th Avenue at NW Marshall Street. The conference will be held on November 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at BDS, 1900 SW 4th Avenue, 4th Floor, Room 4a.

There may even be two hotels in the Pearl before too long. A group of Portland investors have acquired a whole block along NW Glisan Street at 15th Avenue with plans to redevelop it. A hotel is among several possibilities for the site. "That could be one of the best hotel sites in the area," investor Nicholas Diamond told The Oregonian. “It’s pretty much the gateway to the Pearl.”

It may not look like much, but locally-owned businesses in the North Pearl are certainly happy about it. And 9th Avenue north of Lovejoy could definitely use a little activation. Tourism may be just the ticket.

I wonder if they were intentionally trying to make it look ugly or if it was just an accident.

Oh how lovely! I don't think it's ugly at all. Exciting!
