Gladstone Street Revival: 2010 Village Building Convergence

From neighbor Morgan Masterman...

If you haven’t heard, the Village Building Convergence started this past weekend. VBC is an annual ten-day event in Portland that brings communities together through placemaking.  Get involved with projects in your area on the Sites page: http://vbc.cityrepair.org/sites.

My neighborhood (Creston-Kenilworth) is participating as Gladstone Street Revival.  Our project involves digging up our planter strips and planting native plants and installing glass and rock mosaics (aka "Gladstones").  We had a great turnout last weekend and have already made over 25 mosaics to put in along the street. This Friday, June 4 we will be continuing to make more mosaics, install them in the planter strips with plants and plan to pull invasive ivy and replace it with natives. We'd love if you'd join us!

Check out what we've done so far at:  http://www.flickr.com/groups/gladstonestreetrevival

In addition to all the workshops/work parties/food/merriment at each site, City Repair will host workshops, speakers, and music each night of the 10-day event (May 28 – June 6).
