Portland Bureau of Development Services Announces Service Changes
The Portland Bureau of Development Services announced late last week that Plan Review & Permitting and Land Use Services Divisions services will be limited due to budget constraints.
Starting June 1, land use, site development or building permit application review, submittal or intake of complete permits will be limited to Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Limited staff will be around after noon to answer general questions regarding zoning, land use, site development and other areas of service. But no applications will be processed after noon.
Also, the permitting services hours of operation will change to Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m.. to 3 p.m. On Mondays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., staff will be available to release approved permits. Applicants will be contacted when permits reach this stage.

Portland Development Commission Announces New Grants for Lents Town Center URA
The Portland Development Commission announced last week that funds have been made available for two new grants in the Lents Town Center Urban Renewal Area, one for community livability and the other for sustainability improvements to businesses.
The green features grant is for businesses that are interested in implementing creative, sustainable business practices and building features. A total of $100,000 will be available for the fiscal year 2010-2011. Interested business representatives are encouraged to attend an information session Wednesday June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the New Day Center for Art, 5516 Southeast Foster Road.
The community livability grant is meant for physical improvements to community facilities, open spaces or historic/cultural renovation. Up to $250,000 will be awarded this fiscal year. Eligible applicants include neighborhood associations, business associations and nonprofit organizations. Interested organizations are encouraged to attend an informative session tomorrow, Tuesday June 2, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the New Day Center for Art.

Citizens Advisory Committee Votes to Expand Interstate URA
The North Northeast Economic Development Advisory Committee, led by Portland Development Commission staff, voted last week to expand the Interstate Urban Renewal Area to include five additional areas. The Interstate URA is 10 years into its 20-year life span and is the largest URA in Portland.
The expanded areas include 75 acres along NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, 103 acres in the St. Johns Town Center, 33 acres of the Alberta/Killingsworth node, 28 acres along the south side of Lombard Street and 186 acres currently in the Oregon Convention Center URA. The Oregon Convention Center URA is set to expire in 2013.
