Portland Sports Preview: March 5-11

The best of this week’s upcoming sports events

Saturday, March 6
Rumble at the Roseland 50

If you’ve ever seen a Rumble at the Roseland event, you understand the pure adrenaline rush of watching two amateur fighters square off in the octagon for pride, bragging rights and maybe, just maybe, a shot at becoming the next MMA star to come out of Portland. After all, it was this event that launched the careers of UFC stars Chael Sonnen, Chris Leben and Nate Quarry, just to name a few.

But even if you’re a hardcore MMA fan, you haven’t seen an amateur event like this. This is the 50th Rumble at the Roseland, and they’re going all out, offering up a smorgasbord of violent goodness featuring four championship bouts that will culminate with a heavyweight slugfest between Jason Pittman and Shaun Mirjavadi.

Still not impressed? Then we have just two words for you: chick fight! That’s right, the women’s championship will also be on the line when Maygen Sato and Glena Avilia battle it out in the cage—and we seriously doubt there will be any scratching or hair pulling in this one. The best part? A front row seat only costs $59, a far cry from the hundreds it usually takes to get that close to the action at other events. Make sure to check out this epic event—you’ll be glad you did.

WWE Monday Night RAW

Redneck theatre will once again take center stage at the Rose Garden this weekend, complete with all the chair-slamming, table-smashing, elbow-dropping good times that we’ve come to expect from the WWE. In this installment, fan favorites like John Cena, Triple H and the Big Show will take their roid rage out on each other and act out what is sure to be a horrible storyline. So, of course, we’re there!
