Human Solutions Seeks Volunteers to Help Homeless Families Transition to New Homes

Seeking fun-loving volunteers

Help formerly homeless families get adjusted to their new homes and community. This may include helping them: buy groceries on a budget, learn how to cook, move furniture, sign-up for programs, find resources, figure out transportation, learn housekeeping tips, learn how to budget, learn computer skills, read/write, or find a job. Prior to serving, a volunteer must meet with the Volunteer Coordinator and complete an application and a background check. Access to a car is very helpful, proof of insurance and driver’s license is required. Please commit to at least 1-2 visits a month for up to 4 months.

This volunteer opportunity is linked to the Multnomah County’s Initiative to “House 30 Homeless Families in 30 Days”. Human Solutions is managing part of the program and will provide financial rental assistance for six months, counseling, and intervention with landlords to try to get families currently in shelters into homes. The county launched the emergency pilot program on January 15 to relieve crowding at county shelters that are at capacity for families. To learn more, click here and here.
