The families involved in the Good Works Committee have found another great way for children to help children in Haiti. Here's a message from Anjali, who leads the Good Works Committee:
"Molly Highwater's Mission Statement reads, "All these kids in Haiti are really poor. They don't have shoes or any place to stay after the earthquake. It's good that they're getting shoes. We're going to try and get this out to everyone to get the whole community involved."
An official donation site for Molly's mission, North Bend Elementary, fifty miles East of Seattle, Washington is accepting shoes of every size, color and type, as long as they are clean, new or gently used. Single shoes are accepted, due to the growing number of amputees.
This is a timely opportunity for our community, especially kids, to be part of this noble effort. Parents and loved ones of our neighborhood and outside can involve children in picking, collecting, sorting, dropping off the footwear from their respective homes, buildings, schools etc. This effort will feel real to the young ones, for children
in Haiti from children in Portland.
Isobel's Clubhouse, a family program of Zimmerman Community Center, will be happy to host the drop offs by February 12th, 2010. I will take the box/boxes to the reception centre at The International School, and a volnteer parent will drive it alongwith other donations to the Bend Elementary School,WA. We are seeking as many collaborations as possible to add whatever little we can as a community when the need is of such magnitude.
Thank you,
Anjali
