ABOUT SABIN COMMUNITY ORCHARD
Portland Fruit Tree Project (PFTP) and Sabin Community Association (SCA) are partnering to create the Sabin Community Orchard: a small community fruit orchard on public land in Northeast Portland. The orchard will consist of 10 fruit trees of various types (persimmon, plum, apple, cherry, fig, and pear) which will be planted, maintained, and harvested by volunteers. Fruit grown in the orchard will be distributed 50/50 to volunteers and to neighbors in need through a local food bank.
This community orchard will:
- Produce healthy food for the community.
- Provide public demonstration and education in organic fruit tree cultivation.
- Increase soil & watershed health by converting underutilized area from lawn/grass into a vibrant ‘food forest’.
- Serve as a pilot for future PFTP Community Orchard projects.
Sabin Community Orchard is made possible with support from:
- East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District
- Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods & Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement
- Portland Bureau of Transportation

ABOUT PORTLAND FRUIT TREE PROJECT
Portland Fruit Tree Project (PFTP) is a grassroots non-profit organization with a mission to increase access to healthy food and strengthen communities by empowering neighbors to share in the harvest and care of city-grown fruit. We organize neighbors to gather fruit before it falls, and make it available to those who need it most. We register fruit trees throughout the city, coordinate harvesting parties, and offer workshops in tree care & food preservation. Our new Community Orchards program will work with organizational partners to develop community ‘food forests’ on underutilized public and publicly-accessible land in Portland.
