Neighbors to Pitch PDNA for Public Process on Location of Jamison Loo

Pearl neighbor Sandra Ammerman will make a 5-minute presentation about the proposed location of the Jamison Loo at tonight's board meeting of the Pearl District Neighborhood Association

Last week, Ammerman and neighbor Sheila McMahon spoke before City Council, asking for public hearings on the Jamison Loo. They cited a lack of public process regarding the decision to install the Loo at the proposed location at the southwest corner of Jamison Square—in front of Tanner Place Condominiums where both Ammerman and McMahon live.

In response, Commissioner Randy Leonard asked Ammerman and the group of residents opposed to placing the Loo in Jamison, to reach consensus with the PDNA and come to agreement on a location of the loo. "It is up to you and the neighborhood to decide where to put the loo," stressed Leonard, "not whether you want one. And that's an important distinction."

Ammerman intends to ask the board to conduct open discussions with residents and business owners about the location of a Portland Loo in Jamison Square. Her hope is that these public discussions would take place mid to late January.

The meeting agenda includes Ammerman's presentation, but does not include any time for discussion about the Loo.

PDNA Board Meeting
When: December 10, 6 p.m.

There is a big NWDA meeting tonight as well.

"The NWDA knows you have good ideas about the future of our central city. Please chat with us and the PDC about urban renewal on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lucky Lab Brew Pub, 1945 NW Quimby. Refreshments will be provided, including half price beer.

As part of the update to Portland?s Comprehensive Plan, the Portland Development Commission is considering a new urban renewal area in the central city, part of which could be in our neighborhood. Help represent our perspective."
