Homeless Families Warming Center
The winter holiday season is setting in. We, as a collective community, have much to be thankful about. Having a place to call home and prepare a meal is a gift many take for granted. Montavilla Neighborhood Association proudly welcomes the Homeless Families Warming Center into our community. This temporary winter shelter seeks to house families without homes. Last year, this shelter was able to refer or help place 10 families into some form of permanent housing. This shelter is located at 1435 NE 81st Avenue. They are in the need of winter clothing, food, paper goods, cleaning supplies, and blankets. For more information about donations or volunteering, please call 503-810-1352 or email lrimestad@humansolutions.org.

Portland Plan Workshop on January 11
Think 82nd Avenue is a wall dividing communities? Want more urban canopy? Better lightening? Paved roads? Tell it to the City. Our first meeting of the year, January 11th, we will be hosting a workshop to complete surveys and give feedback on the Portland Plan. If Montavilla does not at least ask for resources, we will not get them. This gives us a chance. For more information, call Brian at 971-221-4718 or wong.brian57@yahoo.com.

Thank you to Kelly Moore Paint
Montavilla Neighborhood Association would like to extend a community ‘Thank You' to Kelly Moore Paint at 82nd Avenue and Hawthorne for the donation of paint and supplies for the graffiti cleanup last October. The Neighborhood Association runs on volunteers and donations and we are grateful of any and all support we get. Thank you!!!

Creative Science School Planning 2010 SpringFair
Creative Science School on 92nd Avenue and Mill Street is in the planning process for a community 2010 SpringFair. The hope is to create a neighborhood carnival and festival on the school campus. Gloria, project facilitator, is eagerly seeking input and participation in the planning process. Contact her at happyphantom@earthlink.net.

Neighborhood Tree Planting on January 4
Last summer, Montavilla had one of the largest tree plantings ever, with almost 200 trees planted. The plantings occurred in partnership with Friends of Trees. Next years planting rollouts are already underway. Tree costs are subsidized by Friends of Trees. A tree can be planted in front of your home for as little as $39.99. One can barely buy a shrub for that cost! The deadline for signup is January 4th and can be done at www.friendsofthrees.com. The earlier you select your tree, the better choices that exist. More information and questions answered by contacting Jennifer Tamayo at montavillatrees@yahoo.com or calling 503-257-2940.

Tree Planting Along I-205 Bike Path
Friends of Trees also would like to remind people that they will be doing a lot of planting and re-planting of trees along the I-205 bike path. This entire project will take three years. If you have questions please call 503-282-8846 ext 15 or email loganl@friendsoftrees.org.

Safeway Club Card Donations to Vestal PTA
Kate Dingmann, manager of Safeway, contacted us recently. If you register your Safeway club card at www.escrip.com, Safeway will automatically donate a percentage of every purchase made with registered Safeway cards to Vestal PTA. Vestal PTA will use the funds for community events and to purchase supplies to use in the classroom. You will need your card in hand to register. If you do not have a card, stop by Safeway to pick one up. Help your community with little effort on your part!

Get Involved
The MNA addresses concerns brought to its attention every second Monday, 7 p.m., Montavilla Community Center, but is not meeting in December. Next meeting is January 11th.  Contact Brian at wong.brian57@yahoo.com
