Portland Mall MAX Light Rail Service Begins August 30

MAX trains will return to the bus mall soon! Tri-Met has released the following key event dates and safety reminders for neighbors:
With final touches being made to the revitalized Portland Mall, 5th and 6th avenues are ready for MAX trains. MAX Yellow and Green lines, as well as the MAX Mall Shuttle, will be begin providing service on the new Mall alignment on these dates-

Sunday, August 30: MAX Yellow Line service in downtown Portland will move to the Mall, traveling between Union Station and Portland State University.

Saturday, September 12: MAX Green Line debuts! After a grand opening celebration at PSU's Urban Plaza, free rides will be offered to the public all day. Regular service starts on September 13.

Monday, September 14: The downtown-only MAX Mall Shuttle service begins. MAX Mall Shuttle will run Monday-Friday, from approximately Noon to 5:30 p.m.

With buses already successfully operating on 5th and 6th avenues, and several MAX trains an hour soon to share the same streets, it is more important than ever to travel safely:

• Obey all traffic signals and signs
• Pedestrians should use crosswalks.
• Motorists and cyclists must travel only in the left-hand traffic lane
• Stay out of the right side transit lanes
• Never stop except as required by traffic signals
• Never turn right from 5th and 6th avenues unless permitted by signals and signs

Traffic laws are being enforced with citations and fines of up to $242.
