Kids Love Portland Art Museum

There are so many reasons for families to love Portland Art Museum

Top of mind is the amazing tour that Dan and Caroline led last Sunday. Children who play at Isobel's Clubhouse got a wide-ranging view of art, including pieces from Monet, Picasso and Sanford Biggers. Dan asked great questions about how the art made them feel, what they thought the artist was thinking or feeling, and how they  thought the art was made. Along the way, they learned about good museum behavior including not touching, soft voices, asking questions and moving with the group. The children loved the tour, and one even coined a new verb, 'arting'!

After the tour, families enjoyed the art activities that are available through Sunday for Families, which is the museum's weekly offering of tours and activities for members and those who have paid museum of admission.  And speaking of admission - children are always free, and membership can be paid on a monthly basis.

On July 19th there's an extra special Sunday for Families featuring, in the Museum's own words,

"...a pachyderm-sized party in honor of the Museum's newly acquired sculpture of Ganesha-the elephant-headed, candy-loving, dancing Hindu god of yoga, wisdom, and new beginnings. Groove to the sounds of pulsating Indian music, create art projects, hear stories, and enjoy Indian snacks in this fun-filled afternoon for all ages.

In partnership with the India Cultural Association of Portland. Museum admission on July 19 and participation in Museum Family Day is free for all visitors."

Thank you Portland Art Museum for everything you do to help educate children about art and the museum experience.
