Portland Parks & Recreation launches auditions for the 3rd Annual Portland Teen Idol

Another interesting tidbit...

Are you a future star just waiting to be discovered? Here's your chance! Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) is hosting its third annual singing competition, Portland Teen Idol, for all teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19.  If you live within Multnomah, Clark, Clackamas, and Washington Counties, you're eligible to audition beginning next month to become Portland's next Teen Idol!

Last year over 300 teenagers from across the region auditioned for the competition. The ultimate winner, Jeff Cameron Quigley, was selected at the end of the season by a panel of local celebrity judges, including Storm Large, Michael Allen Harris, Dan Saltzman and 2007 Teen Idol Jordan Thompson, as well as nearly 700 audience members.

All participants must register on-line at http://www.portlandonline.com/parks or in person or on the phone at any community center no later than Monday, March 9, 2009.

Auditions begin March 11 at selected Portland Parks & Recreation community centers. Visit www.portlandonline.com and click on teen idol for more information, to register, and to get the full contest rules.

The competition is free to residents of Portland; non-residents pay a nominal, non-refundable fee of $4 to register.

About PP&R's Teen Programming

Portland Teen Idol is part of PP&R's program aimed at providing expanded recreational activities tailored specifically to the interests of teens. These opportunities originated from the Children's Bill of Rights, created by hundreds of youth from Portland and Multnomah County last June, which clearly showed that the community's youth believe recreational opportunities are an important right for citizens of all ages.
