Chow for Breakfast & Lunch

Chow for Breakfast & Lunch

We cruised by Barista this morning—the new coffee shop opening in the Gadsby Building—in hope of sampling the handiwork of Billy Wilson. Today just wasn't our day. Or anyone's, actually, because the windows were still papered. Soon...

As we rounded the corner, we noticed an open sign in the window of Chow, a new breakfast & lunch spot at 505 NW 14th. It's the cute old service station that most recently housed Get Bento. We ventured inside and took a look at the menu. Breakfast is served all day: egg sandwiches (on a bagel, toast or roll, starting at $3.50), breakfast burrito ($4.50), housemade granola ($3.25), oatmeal ($4.50) and assorted pastries. Coffee is by Seattle's Caffe D'Arte. The lunch menu is a mix of sandwiches, salads and a soup of the day. Chow offers everything from a peanut butter and banana sandwich on white bread ($4) called Graceland—add bacon for a buck—to The Great Northwest, a smoked salmon sandwich with herbed cream cheese on a multigrain bread (whole $6.50, half $3.75). Salad options vary from marinated steak ($8.75) to classic caesar ($7.00). Most have an "add protein" option available.

The whole menu seems geared toward better value and tons of options. You can even create your own sandwich or custom breakfast box if nothing on the menu suits your fancy. And, Chow is kid-friendly. They have wee PBJ or grilled cheese sandwiches served with applesauce and milk for $4.

Chow is affiliated with the same folks who owned Get Bento. The interior has been modified a bit. It's not quite so raw and unfinished.Tables are topped with fresh flowers, the decor seems a bit warmer and the garage door is just begging for a warm, sunny day. It'll be open before you know it!

If anyone gives it a try, be sure and let us know what you think.

Editor's Note: We were contacted by one of Chow's owners yesterday and they corrected a piece of information we were given: Chow is NOT affiliated with the Get Bento folks—except for the lease and equipment purchase.

I had lunch there yesterday! The Garden of Eatin' is a delicious sandwich--head and shoulders above your standard quick sandwich shop fare. I shared a side of fries with my boyfriend and they were crisp and perfectly seasoned with herbs and sea salt. I can't wait to work my way through the menu and try the breakfast sandwiches. I'm vegetarian and am excited about all the veg-friendly options! I hear they will be offering some doggie treats soon too--biscuits made with bacon grease and topped with peanut butter. I think my dogs will have a new fave too.

I visited Chow with my friend for lunch yesterday and was excited to find a lunch option that not only offers an amazing/imaginative menu and friendly service...but it's so reasonably priced! I ordered the cobb salad and was pleasantly surprised at how large it was. It definitely did not skimp on bacon, blue cheese and chicken. Tossed with sauted onions, it was outstanding! The dill ranch dressing was a refreshing change too. My friend had the Chow Ciao sandwich and it was phenomenal too. Can't wait to go back!

Had a great salad there yesterday during their soft opening. Big portions and lots of smoked salmon. Can't wait for the breakfast burritos. Also, excellent off-street parking.

I am amazed at the renovations they did. Looks really welcoming inside. Food is very reasonably priced and quality seems to be much higher than your usual cafe stop spot. All around good experience. Glad they are in the neighborhood.

As the first customer bright and early this am, was impressed with the service. They were actually awake unlike myself. Coffee was great and the bagel sandwich with bacon was tasty. My personal tastes would prefer the bacon less crispy.

Its definitely nice having an option for a fast breakfeast that doesn't include a heartattack. The menu is extensive with many healthy options that cater to many different tastes.
