How do you know when you're in the presence of a great storyteller? Well, children in the audience make it pretty clear. Adults may sit politely and quietly. Children, not so much.
Today Ms. Joan held the attention of about a dozen children while she told stories of the Chinese Zodiac and Chinese New Year. As she engaged the children with questions, toy animals and her animated voice they moved closer and closer until they were clustered around the table, as close to her as they could be. Hard to tell who had more fun, Ms. Joan or the children. See for yourself on our Flickr page.
Ms. Joan is the Education Director at the Portland Classical Chinese Garden, which is hosting a spectacular two weeks of Chinese New Year events. The schedule is online, and is filled with storytelling, lantern making, lion dances and music.
Thank you Ms. Joan for bring Chinese New Year to Isobel's Clubhouse. We'll see you at the Garden soon.
