Large water main break shuts down portion of NW Hoyt Street

At approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning a 12 inch main ruptured under NW Hoyt Street between NW 3rd and 4th avenues, spilling a significant amount of water onto the roadway. The cause of the rupture is unknown at this time.

The Portland Water Bureau immediately sent an emergency crew out to assess the situation and shut the main down. The crew closed NW Hoyt Street between NW 3rd and 4th avenues due to standing water and uneven roadway. Drivers are encouraged to find alternative routes today.

Water Bureau crews are currently on scene, waiting for underground infrastructure to be located. Locate crews are legally allowed 3 hours to respond to a request for locates. The Water Bureau cannot proceed with repair work until underground infrastructure has been located.

Crew members will begin draining the water as soon as possible.

Currently one vacant building is without water service.
