Do you love old houses and support their preservation?
If you answered "yes," join your neighbors in July, August and September as we survey all structures in Irvington; this is phase 1 in our effort to establish an Historic District Nomination for our neighborhood. This will be the largest property survey ever undertaken in Oregon!
The Irvington Community Association and its Historic Preservation Committee, with the assistance and oversight of historical architecture consultants, need volunteers to:
- Record survey information on the exterior of each house/building
- Take digital photographs of each house/building exterior
You will be trained to recognize building styles and materials and in how to complete the survey forms. Working in teams of two, volunteers will be assigned 4-5 blocks (one side of a street) to survey (about 40 structures). You can choose when you want to do the survey (you can also do more than one!).
Training is scheduled for July 12 (morning) or July 14 (evening) and we will have a videotaped version if you cannot attend either.
We also need a few dedicated volunteers to enter data into the State Historic Preservation Office database, and to assist in compiling an intensive history on a selected group of houses. Training will also be provided to these volunteers.
