Historic NE Portland Landmark Gets A Facelift

"Noted by Architecture Week in 2005 as an "endangered site of Black history" this building was constructed in 1921 as a sort of portable classroom. In 1926 Ms. E. S. Collins donated monies to make the structure permanent, creating the first all black YWCA in the state. As time went on this building became a meeting place for the local NAACP and other African American community organizations."
