Kudos to Woodlawn resident Anjala Ehelebe! Her contributions to the neighborhood newsletter inspired a book about Woodlawn's rich history. What a wonderful compliment to Ehelebe's extensive involvement in her neighborhood.
Portland's Woodlawn Neighborhood will be released on May 26.
From the Portland Tribune...
Arcadia Publishing has a unique business model. The South Carolina-based book publisher has about 5,000 titles in print, all of them tightly focused on historical subjects such as “Baseball in Baltimore,” “Akron Churches: Early Architecture,” and “Railroads of North Carolina.”
The acquisitions arm of the company locates local authors with the connections and experience to assemble regional lore and vintage photos into reader-friendly volumes. Arcadia contacted Portlander Anjala Ehelebe after seeing her work in the Woodlawn Voice, the neighborhood’s monthly newsletter. The result is “Portland’s Woodlawn Neighborhood,” a portable, picture-filled book about the Northeast Portland district, which is bounded by Northeast Ainsworth and Northeast Columbia boulevards, and by Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and N.E. 22nd Avenue.
