Thank you to PTP Volunteers

by pearlgirl
Saturday was glorious -- the perfect Portland day for any number of things; but 44 volunteers elected to pick up trash in the neighborhood. :-)

Thanks to all of the volunteers and to our sponsors -- Umpqua Bank , Legacy Health Systems , Peet's Coffee , Whole Foods Market , Multi-Services, Rogue Ales , West Coast Bank, Cheeky B , and Powell's Books .

Bridgeport Condominiums won the "Pride of the Pearl" award for the residential building with the most volunteers. They had 13 total. Way to go BCA!!! Multi-Services won the "Pride of the Pearl" award for the business with the most volunteers. They had 4 total. Way to go MSI!!!

Here's a list of the final results:

We had one accident on Satuday. Sheri Winkelman stepped on a rusty nail at 14th and Quimby and had to be rushed to Good Sam. OUCH!!! We all love Sheri and wish her a speedy recovery. :-D

Thanks again to everyone th

Thanks to all of our generous sponsors and to our volunteers!

No kidding...

by pearlgirl
Just heard about the Pearl Parents Alliance -- what a great group! They promote a stimulating, safe and fun community for all children who come into our neighborhood.

Check out their website for more information and to participate in the census.

Good Samaritan Hospital now has a robot

by pearlgirl

You'll read about first here, folks...

Soon to be in the press, Good Sam hospital has recently dropped a cool 7 figures on a new DaVinci Robot, to assist with surgical procedures in Urology initially, followed by Gynecology and Cardiac Surgery.

St Vincent's Hospital has had a DaVinci robot for several years now, but the use of robotics has increased enough in the community to warrant this installation. Not to mention, Legacy wants to compete with Providence in the technology war.

Robotics have been used extensively in urology and have started to become gold standard for prostate cancer surgery. The idea is less invasive surgery, less blood loss, and fast recovery. If you know anyone needing a radical prostate surgery, I highly recommend they see one of the surgeons trained to use this approach (feel free to email me for names).

In Gynecology, the uses of the robot are mainly for complicated infertility surgery such as fallopian tube

Traffic Diversion Change at 11th & Lovejoy

by pearlgirl
Neighbors,

The sewer work at the 11th and Lovejoy site needs a little boost to keep on schedule. The contractor will be working an hour later for the next few days--until 5 PM. Inspectors will be watching traffic conditions closely to see if this causes excessive problems, and adjusting if needed.

Thanks for your patience.

Ricoh (oh!)

by pearlgirl
When i heard that Ricoh (the bear sculpture in Jamison) was for kids-- I wondered if kids would actually climb on it. It is a hard and slippery surface after all!

kid + slippery + hard surface= tears and/or bruises

I'm not a parent, but Ricoh screams "oh oh" to me.

Anyways. I walked over to Sip & Kranz this morning and saw a child RIDING (albeit sliding) on Ricoh's back. (His parents nearby and smiling) His little arms were wrapped around Ricoh's head and as he lost his grip and began clawing for traction (where none could be found)...

I couldn't stop myself from whispering "oh oh".

(Yes, I will probably burn in hell.)

Happy Labor Day!

by pearlgirl
For many of us, Labor Day is a holiday and we're home relaxing or out having a good time. I just want to take a minute and say thank you to the property management companies and their staff that work so hard for us. The Multi-Services crew is out in force today-- special thanks to Marcelino, Sean, David, Tammy, Ian and Perry for their hard work.

MSI and CMI work diligently for us every day of the year. It's easy to criticize, but it's a difficult job to oversee a neighborhood of condominiums. Make their day and give them a call and say "Thank you".
