Literacy is Freedom

Event date: Sep 8, 2010 1:00 PM Sep 8, 2010 4:00 PM

Event location: Multnomah County Central Library

Multnomah County Library will host a celebration, “Literacy is Freedom” in honor of International Literacy Day, 9/8/10. Meet representatives from community colleges, nonprofit and community-based organizations who reach out to help adults with their goals of gaining citizenship, GED certificates, learning English and improving reading skills. Literacy has many definitions, but having the life skills to form and strengthen communities are the tools these groups provide to folks in Multnomah County.

From 1-4 in Central Library's US Bank Room, these organizations will be available to talk informally about the work they do. At 5:30 we'll co-host the evening event with Colored Pencils Art Collective. At 5:30 we’ll provide snacks. Then get ready to enjoy a reading and open-mic performance from 6-7:30. The event is space-limited so free tickets will be distributed before 5:30.
