Event date: Jul 29, 2010 7:00 PM → Jul 29, 2010 8:30 PM
Event location: Rigler School, 5401 NE Prescott Street
Cully neighborhood residents interested in making their homes greener and more comfortable will convene for an ice cream social sponsored by Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good (MACG) this Thursday, July 29 at Rigler School. The event marks the kick-off of “Changing the Climate in Cully,” a neighborhood-based energy efficiency program that plans to weatherize 100 homes in the Cully community by the end of the year.
Cully community and business leaders, as well as local MACG leaders and volunteers will be on hand to offer information on the residential retrofit program’s components and to sign up interested homeowners up for energy assessments at no upfront costs. Over 200 local residents, family members and local weatherization workers are expected to attend the free event, which—in addition to ice cream—will also feature activities for kids, music and program highlights.
Organized by MACG with a team of community partners, “Changing the Climate in Cully” is part of the larger Clean Energy Works Portland pilot program. Recently, the U.S. Department of Energy awarded $20 million to Oregon for a statewide expansion of the Portland Pilot called Clean Energy Works Oregon. The ramp-up is expected to retrofit thousands of homes and commercial buildings across the state.
Through community outreach and volunteer-driven activities such as door-knocking and house parties, the “Changing the Climate in Cully” effort aims to retrofit 100 Cully homes this year, making homes more comfortable and energy efficient, saving homeowners money on their energy bills while also creating family-supporting jobs and stimulating the local economy.
ATTENDING: Cully Neighborhood Leaders & Residents, Rep. Jules Bailey (Chief sponsor of state legislation that supported Clean Energy Works Portland), Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogen, Jeremy Hays (Green for All), Ben Nelson (Laborers Intl. Union of North America & MACG Sustainable Jobs Action Team), Rich Gunderson (Cully Association of Neighbors), Joan Winchester and Jean Gargan (St. Charles Catholic Church).
Have some ice cream, have some fun, meet Cully neighbors!
