Kidical Mass, which has been a success in Eugene, looks like it's developing a fan base in Portland. After last month's ride, organizer Angela Koch of Bicycle Transportation Alliance was urged to lead another. Families said it was empowering for their kids, and a great way to meet other biking families. BikePortland put together a great video of the ride, definitely worth viewing if you enjoy seeing ear to ear grins.
The 2nd Portland Kidical Mass will take place on Friday July 18th, starting at 6:00 6:30 and lasting about 45 minutes. The ride will start at the playground at Couch and NW, BTA World Headquarters at 233 NW 5th Ave and end at the Ben & Jerry's at NW 10th and Everett.
Come early, say around 6:00, to meet other biking families, play on the swings and decorate bikes! Sounds like there will be some decorating items, but you're welcome to bring your own.
You might also want to mark your calendars for the third Friday of each month. Angela mentions in an email that there's talk of holding Portland Kidical mass in conjunction with Eugene Kidical mass - every month!
Update: just heard from Angela that Ben & Jerry's is giving a free B&J candy treat to the first 100 riders who buy a cone.
Update: Just heard from Angela that they've moved the starting location to 233 NW 5th Ave. If you want to get these updates from Angela directly, you can email her at angela@bta4bikes.org and ask to be added to her list.
