The skillet-fried chicken at Country Cat is not to be missed. Unless you’re watching your cholesterol, and then its bathed-in-buttermilk-dredged-in-flour-fried-in-beef-tallow goodness should probably be avoided. Or eaten as your last meal. If that’s the case, I recommend taking your bullet at brunch. Fried to perfection, the moist, juicy chicken ($13) is served alongside a decadent pecan spoonbread and finished with maple syrup—the perfect balance of savory and sweet. Wash it all down with a Proud Mary, Country Cat’s easy-to-drink bloody mary served with a slice of housemade jerky and pickled veggies.
