Founded by Pastor E.D. Mondainé of the neighboring Celebration Tabernacle, Po'Shines Cafe De La Soul is a community-based restaurant that not only serves up soul food breakfasts, barbecue, and Cajun and Creole dishes, it also provides “career development opportunities through its nonprofit workforce training program,” aiding low income and downtrodden individuals to obtain work experience. With this empowering, altruistic mission at the heart of everything Po'Shines cooks up, try the catfish basket (fried or blackened) with a handful of hushpuppies and a traditional side, like red beans and rice, coleslaw, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, or Hop'n John (black-eyed peas and rice).
