From the Editor...

Since 2004, Lynne Duddy and Lawrence Howard haven't just been telling stories, they've been, in the words of Duddy, "helping people cultivate their own stories, allowing their own themes to emerge." If you've ever wanted to tell a story, enroll in one of their workshops and they'll help you write, tell and perform your story the way you want to. In addition to the Urban Teller series and holiday performances (Halloween, Valentine's Day), the Portland Story Theater is also home to the Solo Performance Festival, the only long-form personal narrative festival in the world.

I just completed the Urban Story Tellers workshop and performance. I went in with trepidation and came out raving about the whole experience. Many thanks to the leaders of the workshop, Lynne Duddy and Lawrence Howard for creating a postive, supportive environment and guiding us with their experience and expertise so that we could get to the truths of our stories. A positive life experience.

What a delightful evening. Wonderful, personal stories of personal challenge and triumph. Loved the story tellers, the atmosphere, the idea. Will return soon, perhaps even sign up to tell my own story.

The Portland Story Theater put on another fantastic Urban Tellers show on 11-11-111 I would highly recommend everyone to go through the Personal Narrative class they offer. It's an experience you'll never forget or regret!

I just experienced the 11-11-11 Portland Story Tellers event and, as always, found it totally enthralling. The tellers bared their souls and won our hearts once again, letting the audience into the intimate moments of their lives, reliving the pain, the joy, the bittersweet moments that make up our life journeys. As always, it was a privilege to be allowed into the hearts of the tellers and to share with them secret joys and sorrows we all experience. I left feeling honored to have shared these moments that transported me out of me own life into the universal journey we all share. - Mary Welch
