Passion for Peonies

Here's some news from the Portland Classical Chinese Garden.
Just in time for Mother's Day and in celebration of one of China's most revered plants, the Portland Classical Chinese Garden will showcase this visually stunning and culturally rich plant. References to the "King of Flowers" have been found as far back as the 7th century B.C. With their lush, full blooms peony cultivars were fiercely coveted and fetched huge sums amongst the elite of China. Over the years the peony came to represent honor, wealth and rank--a far cry from its humble beginnings as a medicinal plant used for treating respiratory and blood diseases.
