City Council Meeting regarding Sauvie Island Bridge
by shooter
Jonathan over at BikePortland provides a detailed summary of yesterdays City Council meeting where the Sauvie Island Bridge ordinance was first presented. The meeting was the first reading of the ordinance for the project, with a vote coming at the May 7 City Council meeting.Jonathan also provided some links to opponents who raise some valid concerns about the project. Bojack raised concerns about traffic control along Flanders on both sides of 405. Be warned that the usual tirade of hate against the NW and the Pearl is laced within the reader comments. If you can ignore that, there is substance in there. My understanding is that traffic lights and crosswalks will be installed on Flanders and that the traffic signals on 16th at Glisan and Everett will be reconfigured to make that stretch safer for cars, bikes, and pedestrians.
Amanda Fritz gives a detailed post about her opposition to the project. The last comment on her post by J. Labbe does an excellent job of arguing for the project and at the same time shows how the politics of those on both sides have clouded this project and turned it into an "us versus them" or a "haves against have not" argument rather than judging the validity of the project on its own.
I hope that by reading all this you can come to your own informed decision about the project. And thanks to Jonathan for the great coverage.
