Margo Jacobsen to close -- again

by shooter

Today, Jacobsen sent out emails to clients and artists that she would be ending her second attempt at a gallery.

"I don't want to handle the level of financial stress anymore," Jacobsen says. Jacobsen rents a third-floor space at 1306 N.W. Hoyt St., but had been contemplating a move to a ground-floor space nearby that would have gived her gallery greater foot traffic and exposure. But after consideration, Jacobsen calculated that such a move wouldn't be financially possible: rents are too expensive in the Pearl, the city's gallery epicenter.

Jacobsen opened her new gallery-art consultancy about 13 months ago, after four years away from the business. In 2003, Jacobsen closed her 11-year-old Pearl District gallery to live and travel in Singapore, where her husband was on a temporary assignment with Intel. The closure was a significant loss: Jacobsen was one of the Pearl's pioneering dealers and a classy, reasonable presence.
