Portland, Oregon (June 5, 2007) - EWF Modern is located in the Pearl---Portland’s design district---the new address of organic modern style and sustainable home furnishings. Designers, decorators, environmentalists and enthusiasts can source all of their product needs within this vibrant urban community.
What is organic modern? It is the fundamental philosophy that design takes its cue from Nature. The clean lines, soft sensual shapes and tactile treasures of Nature translate into aesthetically sophisticated pieces with organic properties.
Is furniture sustainable? The greening of the home furnishings industry is a goal-oriented movement that is transforming how it processes and sources materials. Pioneers of the movement, such as EWF Modern are embracing manufacturers that use reclaimed woods or materials harvested from managed forests. The pressure to “look fabulous, live well, do good,” the mantra of the Sustainable Style Foundation (SSF)---an international, member-supported nonprofit organization created to provide information, resources and innovative programs that promote sustainable living and sustainable design---is harnessing the power of popular culture to enact industry change.
EWF Modern provides a harmonious blend of the organic modern aesthetic and sustainable processes. In store, you’ll find exclusive tables, beds and casegoods crafted from reclaimed Brazilian Peroba and Mahogany, supple leather sectionals, playful yet functional art and soft furnishings of leather, wool, buffalo horn and other organic elements curated from local artisans.
Owner Renee Russo introduced her style agenda--a mix of handcrafted Asian antiques and modern western accessories--with the opening of East West Fusion in 2002. The success of that venture gave Renee the confidence to foray to the other side of the design dial and launch EWF Modern on April 20, 2007. Her curatorial efforts showcase pieces that embody her love of the simple, natural and textural.

This is an amazing store. I saw so many things that I want in my house. Dangerous territory for me! I am telling everyone I know about the wonderful furniture. I think Renee deserves major congratulations for a store well done.
